The Turkey House is situated on a working farm underneath the beautiful Hampshire Hangers. A semi-detached property - it has a warm and welcoming farmhouse kitchen with 4 oven AGA, useful for not only cooking but warming up against after a brisk winter's walk in the beautiful surrounding countryside! The lounge has a huge brick fireplace and plenty of seating and there is a large separate dining area with oak table and chairs. With 3 good sized bedrooms upstairs and newly renovated bathroom with roll top bath, The Turkey House is a wonderful rural base, surrounded by nature but within a 5 minute drive of the market town of Petersfield and trains to London or Portsmouth. It is a working farm so do expect to hear sheep, cows, geese and chickens but that is all part of the charm! Dogs are more than welcome although we ask that they are kept under close control because of the livestock! There are fabulous walks right from the front door!
The clue is in the location of our property! We are livestock farmers and do a bit of arable to provide food for the poultry, sheep and cows!
Situated in the tiny hamlet of Ashford in the village of Steep, The Turkey House has a rural setting directly under the Ashford Hangers. Situated close to The Hangers Way with connecting routes to both The Shipwrights Way and The South Downs Way, this is real walking territory. The poet Edward Thomas is commemorated at the nearby Poet's Stone on Shoulder of Mutton Hill. The views from the spot are amazing and it is only a 10 minute walk from the front door. The market town of Petersfield is only a 5 minute drive away and there are some fantastic days out - Portsmouth Historical Dockyard, the National Trust properties at Uppark and Hinton Ampner, Jane Austen's house at Chawton, the cathedral cities of Winchester and Chichester and horseracing and the Festival of Speed/Revival at Goodwood. With a wealth of good pubs in the surrounding villages (some reachable by foot - lots of maps and suggestions provided) the newly formed South Downs National Park is definitely worth a visit!
