Smithy Cottage is a detached stone holiday cottage for two, beautifully renovated and furnished, with its own private patio area and lawned garden. The cottage is tucked away behind the Horseshoes Inn, an excellent pub serving meals all day. The Montgomery Canal runs at the end of the grounds, offering pleasant towpath walks in both directions, perfect for ramblers, nature lovers and canal enthusiasts alike. The pretty village of Berriew, with excellent local facilities, is a mile and a half away.
he Montgomery Canal provides gentle walking through many miles of beautiful, unspoiled countryside, with interesting canal architecture and wildlife. Coed-y-Dinas Garden Center with gift shop and cafe is close to the canal, on the outskirts of Welshpool. The National Trust’s Powys Castle, with Clive Museum, stunning Italianate gardens and wonderful views over the Severn Valley is also en route. A little further out on the edge of town is the Welshpool-Llanfair Caereinion Steam Railway. A 1.25 mile walk along the towpath in the other direction takes you to the center of the village of Berriew, an attractive village with many black and white cottages, impressive Church, village shop, pub, cafe, butcher, and the Andrew Logan Museum of Sculpture. The historic market town of Montgomery (the former county town) is just 5 miles away, with medieval cottages and elegant Georgian architecture, small museums, art galleries, florist, pub, cafes, restaurants, Monty’s Brewery Visitor Center and much more!
