The Anchorage Bed and Breakfast is located on the shores of the Holy Loch with views out towards the Clyde Estuary and the majestic hills of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Our Bed and Breakfast has offered guests a comfortable, welcoming and convenient place of rest and relaxation for over 12 years. 'Booking' guests may choose from the twin-bedded 'Gull Room' or the deluxe double 'Heron Room'. Both are contemporary, en-suite rooms with great views out across the Clyde. This detached Victorian house was originally built for a wealthy merchant from Glasgow and once owned by Harry Lauder. The property boasts a commanding position on the Loch side and can be a great place to watch the weather whip up on the Loch. The space provides tranquility and that much sought after escape from the modern day hustle and bustle. Guests are very welcome to use the breakfast room at their leisure. This has some great guides and books about the local area and may be used to catch-up on work or simply as another perch to enjoy the sea views from. Binoculars are available to survey the abundant seabirds and occasional seal.
I am Richard, and I've lived in the area for over 40 years. My family owned a traditional pub on nearby Loch Eck and, in semi-retirement, have run the Anchorage B&B for the last 12 years. Always very happy to recommend places to eat, see and enjoy within the local area. There are a number of very beautiful walks and drives nearby which I'll be delighted to explain to guests. I run the B&B with my wife Helen, and am kept in good company by the family dog Meg (who is kept away from guest areas where possible.)
Ardnadam is a residential coastal community on the shores of the Holy Loch. The area is peaceful, safe and provides superb sunset views from the Lazaretto War Memorial (less than a minutes walk). Guests can enjoy picnic benches and a small, public beach here. The community of Sandbank has a rich history, and books are available to make reference too. Whilst sedate now, the Holy Loch once hosted the Polaris US Submarine Base during the Cold War periods. Benmore Botanic Gardens is a 10 minutes drive away for some great day-hikes, whilst there are a number of great driving routes that can be taken within the wider Cowal area. A great drive that showcases the highlights of the area is the Argyll Secret Coast route which Richard can happily explain the way to. The township of Dunoon is only 10 minutes drive away, and this has facilities such as supermarkets, pubs and restaurants.
